Mumbai is known to be the financial hub of India. Formerly known as Bombay, the city is rightfully known as the city that never sleeps. With the fast paced life, Mumbaikars are always looking out for various options to get away and make the most of their holidays. From picturesque beaches and serene hill stations to thrilling adventurous activities, there are many places to visit near Mumbai on weekends. We give some ideas to make the most of your weekend in Mumbai:

    1. Elephanta Caves

      A great attraction, the caves are located on the Elephanta Island, named by the Portuguese. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, these caves house rock cut temples dating back to the 5th century CE.

    2. Rajmachi Fort

      One of the historic spots in Maharashtra, Rajmachi Fort is an amazing location to plan a trek with friends. Explore its age-old history as you trek through the mesmerizing beauty of nature.

    3. Revdanda Beach

      A beautiful village in Alibaug, this is one serene location near Mumbai still untouched by commercialisation. Playful sands, golden rays of the sun and the tranquillity that prevails in the Revdanda Beach is something that may not be found across other beach locations.

    4. Malshej Ghat

      A breath-taking mountain pass in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, tourists visit the destination for its abundant flora and fauna, especially birdlife which includes species such as flamingos, crakes, cuckoos, quails and rails.

    5. Daman

      Daman is a city in the Union territory of Daman and Diu. There are two beaches in Daman which are great tourist spots namely the Jampore Beach in Moti Daman and the Devka beach in Nanidaman.

    6. Lavasa

      The planned city of Lavasa is set among the hills of Western Ghats. With a picturesque view, there are a number of parks and gardens in Lavasa where one can go for picnics and family outings.

    8. Jyotirlinga temple

    9. Panchgani

      Panchgani got its name as it stands in between five hills of the Sahyadris (‘panch’ is five in Hindi). A pleasant weather all year round, this si one of the most sought after hill stations from Mumbai.

    10. Tiger Point

      Also known as Tiger’s Leap, this is a cliff top point with a drop of over 650 m located in Lonavala. If you go during the monsoon, you can also find an active waterfall nearby.

    11. Jawhar Hill station

      Another pretty hill station near Mumbai, this is where the Warli tribe resides. Jawhar’s attractions include the tribal heritage tour as well as ancient temples, waterfalls and viewpoints.

    12. Murud – Janjira Fort

      Just off the coast of a village named Murud is an island where the Murud-Janjira fort stands. With a fascinating history, this tourist destination is also appealing for its architecture and construction.

    13. Durshet

      Durshet, a location abour 100 kms from Mumbai, boasts of untouched beauty and appeal. With an array of activities to indulge, it is one of the ideal getaways for nature lovers.

    14. Karnala

      Two major attractions at Karnala are the Karnala Bird Sanctuary and the Karnala Fort. Situated about 10 kms from Panvel, The Karnala Fort has a rich history as it overlooked the Bor Pass, connecting the Konkan coast to the inside regions of Maharashtra.
